Terms of service

Effective 2026-09-05. These terms cover both the public website and the JSON API at /api/v1/.

Using the website

The website is free to read and free to cite. You may quote a figure, link to a page, or embed a chart, provided you credit LocalEconomy.com and, where we name it, the original public source underneath. See the data and licenses page for what each source itself requires.

Using the API

Every API request needs a key. Request one by emailing hello@localeconomy.com; there is no self-serve signup yet. A key is issued for your use, or your organization's use, and should not be shared publicly or embedded in a client-side application where others could read it.

Use the API reasonably. Each key carries a rate limit; a key that puts a disproportionate load on the service may be throttled or revoked without notice. Do not use the API to build a product that republishes our derived scores or generated summaries as if they were your own; the underlying public data remains free to use under its own source's license, and our own derived figures (scores, percentile ranks, generated summaries) may be cited with a link back, not resold as a competing dataset.

Accuracy

We check every parsed value against a sanity range before it publishes, and we log a dated correction if we get one wrong (see the corrections policy). Even so, the data is provided as is, without a warranty of accuracy or fitness for any particular purpose. Do not treat a figure on this site as financial, legal, or investment advice, or as a substitute for checking the original source before a decision that matters.

Availability

We aim to keep the site and API available, but we make no guarantee of uptime and may take either down for maintenance, a data correction, or a change to the underlying infrastructure.

Ending access

We may suspend or revoke an API key for a violation of these terms, for abuse, or for excessive load on the service. You may stop using the API or ask us to revoke your key at any time.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site and API grow. We will update the effective date above when we do, and tell active API customers directly about any change that affects how they can use their key.
